On playback, I found that watching videos even on my dual core 2 laptop (I only have 1 gb of ram though) was slow with Quicktime so I switched to watching the mov files in windows media player and it played TONS more smoothly with no pausing whatsoever. **Please note!!*** When filming less than 2 feet away or when you are holding the A-HD to film yourself, make sure to push the lever on the side of the lens to macro!! Otherwise your video will be soft and blurry in some spots! Anyway I'm very pleased with the A-HD! The D1 resolution is also very good and the CIF web resolution is as expected.

The cd-rom has the manual for the A-HD, digital theatre for watching movies and it has Arcsoft total media extreme DVD burning/Basic Video editing software. There is no autofocus but even so the fixed focus lens records very well. Very easy to get set up and start taking my first videos and pics. The shutter button is a bit of a pain if taking a self portrait in camera mode. The record button and The flash button are not in the greatest of places but it's not hard to press. It's a nice size, easy to hold and easy to use. It really does record in High Definition and the HD video quality is amazing! The A-HD feels nice in my hands (I have small hands) and I like the feel of it.

The aiptek A-HD 720p camcorder is a delight! I got it on sale and it's incredible that a HD DV camcorder is offered at such a low price. Downside is that to use it with a bullet camera, the screen needs to be flipped open, so you can't just stick the camcorder in a pouch or case (it will power off).Ĭamera battery life is over 70 minutes, not sure what others have seen but it is a good battery and you can buy others with 1300mAh+ for more life from your local battery specialty store.Ī good buy altogether, I am not disappointed. The lack of focus motor is a blessing, as it is just one more thing to break on a racecar, just don't make the mistake of setting the manual focus switch to "closeup" or you will get a nice fuzzy video in 720p :)Īnother benefit- external analog A/V inputs for recording off of a remote bullet camera or your VCR or TV.fantastic, most companies are doing away with this feature, still usable by many. That being said, the LCD is GREAT and the user controls are VERY EASY to use. When shooting at home, the videographer gets great sound input when talking, but the subjects are left in an echoing background. The camcorder is begging for image stabilization as well as an external mic input, even placing tape over the mic hole did not improve the sound quality. I have also used this in a racing application and tested on rollcages in Porsche racecars. I have used this camcorder to shoot my daughter in low-light situations and it seems to look fine, great for sending high-resolution "HD" video to the grandparents. I won’t use it for my most important video projects but for everyday use I love it. Changing batteries is a snap and you would lose less than 1 minute of video to make the battery change. If the 35 minutes is correct that would be kind of low but batteries for this camera are very available and low cost. I have only shot about 30 minutes of video in a couple of 15 minute sessions so I can’t review this. Stills are acceptable and have the same color over saturation – which is correctable. I guess if you buy a video camera at this price and it takes good video but you expect outstanding stills too – you ask too much. Still photos – at 5MP it takes stills but they aren’t going to blow you away. Not as bad as some I have seen but only marginally usable. Grass looks really green and water looks better than it did in person. For a really small and inexpensive camera this Aiptek is a powerhouse.ĬONS – Typical CMOS video – a little color over saturated. This is great as I can even charge this camera with my cell phone charger.

Also the LCD is great and I was totally surprised to find that you can actually see the image on the LCD in full sun. This cameras stores video in MOV format so any computer with QT installed will display the video. The camera comes with AV and Component video cables so you can connect to any TV. OK those cards are too expensive now but hey they won’t be soon. I like this camera because it can store 2 hours of highest quality video on a 4gb SD card – AND the camera can recognize up to 32gb SD cards.

The real world video quality isn’t much different when the upscaled 480p is compared to the HD video from this camera. I have compared video from my standard def DVD camera to this unit on my HDTV. Does it compare with the $1000 + HD video cameras? NO, but for this low of a price you can’t beat it. This little HD video camera is an outstanding value.
